{"id":19719,"date":"2017-03-23T15:36:50","date_gmt":"2017-03-23T15:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wearelikeyou.org\/?p=19719"},"modified":"2017-03-23T15:38:03","modified_gmt":"2017-03-23T15:38:03","slug":"the-basque-government-grants-a-180000-usd-aid-to-we-are-like-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wearelikeyou.org\/en\/the-basque-government-grants-a-180000-usd-aid-to-we-are-like-you\/","title":{"rendered":"The Basque Government grants a 180,000 USD aid to We Are Like You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Basque Agency for Cooperation for Development<\/strong> recently granted <strong>a 180,756 USD aid<\/strong> to the <a title=\"The project\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wearelikeyou.org\/en\/the-project\/\"><strong>We Are Like You<\/strong> project<\/a>, aimed to improve the care of mental health\u00a0and the social-sanitary environment in Monrovia, Liberia.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The Agency, a public body of the <strong>Basque Government<\/strong>, allocated this amount in its last 2016 call for funding of grants and emergency aids, which comprises a <strong>total amount of\u00a04,896,687 USD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mikel Tellaeche<\/strong>, CEO at\u00a0<a title=\"Aita Menni Hospital\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aita-menni.org\" target=\"_blank\">Aita Menni Hospital<\/a> and Head of Health Programs of\u00a0the <a title=\"Saint Benedict Menni Health Center\" href=\"http:\/\/sistershospitallers.org\/centres\/holy-child-health-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\">Saint Benedict Menni Health Center<\/a> in Monrovia, has shown\u00a0the satisfaction of Sisters Hospitalers for this contribution, &#8220;which sums up one third of the\u00a0project\u00b4s <a title=\"Budget and finance\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wearelikeyou.org\/en\/budget-and-finance\/\" target=\"_blank\">total budget<\/a> and lead us to be very optimistic on the prompt start into operation\u00a0of the Step-Down Unit for mental health patients&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The call from the Basque Agency comprises two types of interventions: on one hand, projects for emergency aid, aimed to provide goods and services as quickly as possible to guarantee the survival and relief the suffering in case of disaster; on the other, less urgent humanitarian projects\u00a0focused on setting the foundations for development, human rights and peace building.<\/p>\n<p>The aid granted to <strong>We Are Like You<\/strong> belongs to this last group, as it aims to improve, after the 2014 Ebola virus outbreak, the social-sanitary environment of the area\u00a0where the Saint Benedict Menni Health Center is located, and to settle a specialized care unit for people with mental illness and intellectual handicaps, with the knowledge of Spain\u00b4s Aita Menni Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty five projects for 20 countries were presented to the 2016 call of these grants, opened in April.
