08 Mar Women’s Voices, Women’s Strength
International Women’s Day reminds us that listening to women is essential for building healthier and more compassionate communities
Every year, International Women’s Day invites us to recognise the strength, resilience and contributions of women across the world. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges that many women continue to face, particularly those living with mental health difficulties or in situations of vulnerability.
In many communities, women experiencing mental health challenges often face multiple barriers at the same time. Stigma, economic hardship, social expectations and limited access to services can make it difficult for them to seek help or receive the care they need. As a result, many women remain unheard and unsupported.
At We Are Like You, we believe that listening to women’s experiences is an essential step towards promoting mental wellbeing. Creating safe spaces where women feel respected, supported and able to share their stories can make a profound difference in their recovery and in their sense of dignity.
Through our work with communities, we support initiatives that strengthen access to mental health care and promote inclusion for women facing difficult circumstances. Outreach activities, psychosocial support and rehabilitation programmes aim not only to address mental health needs, but also to help women rebuild confidence, reconnect with their families and regain a sense of purpose.
International Women’s Day is also an opportunity to recognise the many women who dedicate their lives to caring for others. Across communities and health services, women play a fundamental role as professionals, caregivers and advocates for wellbeing.
Their commitment reminds us that care is not only a service but also an expression of solidarity and compassion.
As we mark this day, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting women’s mental health and ensuring that women experiencing vulnerability are not left behind. Supporting women means strengthening families, communities and the collective wellbeing of society.
Because when women are heard, supported and respected, the path towards healing and hope becomes possible for everyone.
