Celebrating the Compassion and Dedication of Nurses

On International Nurses Day, WALY recognises the essential role nurses play in mental health care, offering support, dignity and hope to those who need it most.

Today, on International Nurses Day, we want to recognise and celebrate the incredible work of nurses around the world, especially those who support people facing mental health challenges every day.

At We Are Like You (WALY), nurses are much more than healthcare professionals. They are listeners, advocates, companions and a constant source of support for many of the people we walk alongside.

Working in mental health care requires patience, empathy and resilience. Every conversation, every moment of care and every act of kindness can have a lasting impact on someone’s recovery journey. Often, it is the small everyday actions that help people feel safe, respected and understood.

This day is an opportunity to thank all nurses for their dedication and humanity, particularly those working in environments where resources can be limited but compassion never is.

Their commitment reminds us that mental health care is not only about treatment, but also about connection, dignity and hope.

To all nurses in Liberia and across the world: thank you for the care you provide, the lives you touch and the difference you make every single day.

Happy International Nurses Day.
