Workshop on drug addictions care

04 Sep 2023 Our staff expands their expertise in the care of patients with drug addiction

The Government of Liberia, through the National Steering Committee for the Youth-at-Risk Program, has launched a rehabilitation program for youngsters with drug abuse disorders, in which 105 young people from Monrovia —88 males and 17 females— have voluntarily registered.

The young people have been admitted to various medical centers for a period of detoxification, after which they will move on to a rehabilitation program.

Our Mental Health Unit is waiting to sign a memorandum of understanding with the program’s leaders to intervene in the rehabilitation process of the female patients, and in the meantime, our staff has received specific training in the care and attention of this type of patient.

In past months, the Unit coordinator and the Nursing supervisor took part in a Ministry of Health training program related to drug use prevention, and now, in a two-day workshop, led by a team from the Psychiatric Residency Program, 16 people including sisters have been able to deepen their knowledge on the special characteristics of this type of patients and on the protocols for their care.
