Upjit Singh Sachdeva, known in Liberia as “Mister Jeety”, is an Indian businessman, diplomat and philanthropist who carries out numerous initiatives to help the most disadvantaged people in the African country.

Mr. Sachdeva owns businesses that manufacture, import and sell construction materials, has been the Honorary Consul of India in Liberia for more than 30 years and has received numerous awards from the governments of India and Liberia.

Mister Jeety collaborates with the Saint Benedict Menni Mental Health Center by donating 10 sacks of rice every month to feed our patients, just as he does with other health centers in the capital, Monrovia. In addition, since 2017 it has been leading the Hot Homemade Meals Program, which periodically provides food for people living on the streets of the city, for hospital patients and for prison inmates. More than 3 million people have benefited from this program so far, which was of particular importance in the March 2020 coronavirus crisis.

This February, the community of Sisters Hospitallers of Monrovia and the staff of our center were invited by Mr. Jeety to participate in one of these solidarity actions, in which we distributed plates of food to more than a thousand people, men, women and children living in poverty in Monrovia. It was a rewarding experience, which helped us not only to strengthen our bonds of friendship with Mr. Sachdeva, but also to get closer to the most vulnerable people around us.
